Singing School

When: Feb 14-16th, 2025

Where: "The Big House" at River Hills Retreat, 11900 AL-160, Hayden, AL 35079

Who: Christian men wanting to get better at reading music and leading congregational singing

This event is designed to help men in the local area learn how to read/time music and improve their ability to lead congregational singing. We designed this event to be open to all ages and ability levels. We will create groups based on everyone's ability and comfort level, then teach based on what that group needs. The event will be led by Seth Miller (Trussville church of Christ) and assisted as required by other instructors for the breakout groups.

On Saturday night, local congregations will be invited to a song service at the event hall, which the Singing School students will lead. Students will then have the option to leave from there or return to the Big House to fellowship with each other and have a relaxing evening before checking out to attend worship services the next morning.

Friday evening

5-6 PM: Arrival
6:00 PM: Introductions
7:00 PM: Dinner
8:00 PM: Itinerary review, purpose of the event, warmups, singing
10:00 PM: Games and free time

Saturday

7:00 AM: Breakfast
8:00 AM: "Pitch" (starting together then breakouts according to skill level)
9:30 AM: Free time
10:30 AM: "Rhythm" (together then breakout)
12:00 PM Lunch
1:00 PM: "Dynamics and Other Notations" (together then breakout)
2:30 PM: Free time
3:30 PM: "Song Selection Tips" and practice for congregational singing
5:00 PM: Dinner
6:00 PM: Final preparations for congregational singing in the Event Hall
7:00 PM: Congregational Singing @ Event Hall
Final feedback, questions, additional one-on-one work

Sunday:

7:00 AM: Breakfast
8:00 AM: Depart for worship services

Cost is $65 per person. Includes lodging and food. We have an anonymous donor willing to pay for some tickets, so contact us at RHRvenue@gmail.com if you need help with the registration fee.
